Tax Withheld Calculator
Calculate PAYG withholding from your pay based on your TFN declaration and pay frequency.
Your gross pay for a single pay period before tax
You can only claim this from one employer
How It Works
This calculator uses the ATO PAYG withholding coefficients for 2025-26 to estimate the tax withheld from a single pay period. It factors in whether you're claiming the tax-free threshold and whether HELP debt repayments should be added. The formula annualises your pay, applies the tax scales, then converts back to per-period amounts.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is PAYG withholding?
Pay As You Go (PAYG) withholding is the tax your employer deducts from each pay and sends to the ATO on your behalf. The amount is based on ATO withholding schedules, your pay frequency, and your TFN declaration.
Can I claim the tax-free threshold from two jobs?
No. You can only claim the tax-free threshold from one payer. If you have two jobs, claim it from the employer that pays you the most. Your second employer withholds at higher rates without the threshold.
Why is my tax withheld different from my actual tax liability?
PAYG withholding is an estimate based on the assumption you earn the same amount each period all year. If your income varies, you have deductions, or offsets apply, your actual tax at lodgement time will differ — resulting in a refund or amount owing.
