How It Works

Under the fixed rate method, multiply your total WFH hours by $0.67 to get the deduction. The calculator takes your weekly hours and number of weeks to compute total hours, then applies the rate. For the actual cost method, it calculates the work-use percentage of internet and phone bills based on your WFH hours relative to total usage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the 67 cents per hour fixed rate cover?

The 67c/hour fixed rate covers electricity, gas, phone, internet, stationery, and computer consumables. You can claim additional deductions separately for the decline in value of equipment (desks, chairs, monitors) and repairs to that equipment.

What records do I need for the fixed rate method?

You need a record of hours worked from home for the full income year — such as a timesheet, roster, diary, or similar document. The ATO does not accept estimates.

Can I claim my home office and the 67c rate?

If you have a dedicated home office, you can claim occupancy expenses (rent, mortgage interest, rates) proportional to the room's floor area — but only if your home is your principal place of work. Occupancy expenses are separate from the fixed rate.

What changed with the WFH deduction?

From 1 July 2022, the ATO replaced the old 52c/hour shortcut method with the revised fixed rate of 67c/hour. The actual cost method is still available but requires receipts and records for each individual expense you claim.
