GST Calculator
Add GST, remove GST, or find the GST component of any amount — Australian 10% GST.
Australian GST is 10%. Change for other countries.
How It Works
Adding GST: amount x 1.10 = GST-inclusive total. Removing GST: amount / 1.10 = ex-GST amount. Finding GST component: amount / 11 = GST amount. The calculator shows all three values (ex-GST, GST component, inc-GST total) regardless of which direction you choose.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the GST rate in Australia?
The Australian GST rate is 10%. It applies to most goods and services. GST-free items include basic food (fresh fruit, veg, bread, milk, meat), some health services, education, and exports. Input-taxed supplies include financial services and residential rent.
How do I calculate GST?
To add GST: multiply by 1.1. To find the GST in a GST-inclusive price: divide by 11. To find the ex-GST amount from a GST-inclusive price: divide by 1.1. For example: $100 ex-GST = $110 inc-GST. The GST component is $10.
When do I need to register for GST?
You must register for GST if your business has a GST turnover of $75,000 or more per year ($150,000 for non-profit organisations). Taxi/rideshare drivers must register regardless of turnover. Registration is done through the ATO when you get your ABN.
What items are GST-free in Australia?
Basic food (not prepared/restaurant food), most medical and health services, some educational courses, childcare, exports, international transport, precious metals, and some water and sewerage services. Residential rent is 'input-taxed' — no GST is charged but the landlord can't claim GST credits.
