LITO provides up to $700 for taxable incomes under $66,668

How It Works

This calculator subtracts your deductions from total income to get taxable income, then applies ATO tax rates, Medicare Levy, HELP repayments (if applicable), and tax offsets (LITO). It compares the total tax liability against the tax already withheld by your employer(s) to show your estimated refund or amount owing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is my tax refund calculated?

Your refund is the difference between tax already withheld by your employer(s) and your actual tax liability. If more was withheld than you owe (after applying deductions and offsets), you get a refund. If less was withheld, you owe the ATO the difference.

What is the Low Income Tax Offset (LITO)?

LITO reduces tax for low-to-middle income earners. For 2025-26 it provides up to $700 for taxable incomes up to $45,000, phasing out between $45,001-$66,668. It's applied automatically — you don't need to claim it.

What deductions can I claim?

Common deductions include work-related car expenses, travel, clothing, self-education, working-from-home expenses (67c/hour fixed rate), tools and equipment, union fees, and donations over $2 to registered charities. You need records to substantiate claims.

When can I lodge my tax return?

Tax returns for the financial year (1 July - 30 June) can be lodged from 1 July. If you self-lodge, the deadline is 31 October. If you use a registered tax agent, they generally have extended deadlines into the following year.
