Hourly Rate Calculator
Convert an annual salary to hourly, daily, weekly, and fortnightly rates.
Standard full-time is 38 hours
52 weeks for a standard year (leave is paid)
How It Works
The calculator divides your annual salary by total annual hours (hours/week x weeks/year) to get the hourly rate. If super is inclusive, it first extracts the base salary by dividing by (1 + SG rate). It then shows: hourly, daily (hourly x daily hours), weekly, fortnightly, monthly (annual / 12), and annual equivalents for easy comparison.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert salary to hourly rate?
Hourly rate = annual salary / (hours per week x weeks per year). For $85,000 at 38 hours/week over 52 weeks: $85,000 / (38 x 52) = $85,000 / 1,976 = $43.02/hour.
What is the minimum wage in Australia?
As of 1 July 2024, the national minimum wage is $24.10 per hour or $915.91 per 38-hour week. Award rates for specific industries are generally higher than the national minimum. The Fair Work Commission reviews the minimum wage annually, with the next increase effective 1 July 2025.
How do I compare a contract rate to a salary?
When comparing, remember that a salary typically includes annual leave (4 weeks), personal leave (10 days), superannuation (11.5%), and sometimes other benefits. A contractor charging $80/hour might be equivalent to a salary of $100-120k once you factor in leave, super, and business costs the contractor covers.
Does 52 weeks or 48 weeks matter?
Use 52 weeks when your salary covers the full year (including paid leave), which is the standard for employment contracts. Use 48 weeks only if you want to calculate an 'actual working' hourly rate that reflects only the weeks you're physically at work.
