Ideal Weight Calculator
Calculate your ideal weight range using multiple established formulas based on height, gender, and frame size.

How It Works
The calculator computes ideal body weight using four established formulas (Devine, Robinson, Miller, Hamwi), each giving a slightly different estimate based on height and gender. Frame size adjustments of +/-10% are applied. The results are shown as a range, along with the BMI-based healthy weight range for comparison.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which ideal weight formula is most accurate?
No single formula is definitively 'best'. The Devine formula (1974) is the most widely used in medicine for drug dosing. Robinson (1983) and Miller (1983) tend to give slightly higher ideal weights. Using the range across all formulas gives a realistic target window.
Should I aim for my ideal weight?
Ideal weight formulas provide a general guide, not a prescription. Body composition (muscle vs fat), age, and individual health matter more than hitting a specific number. A healthy BMI range (18.5-24.9) for your height is a more practical target.
Does frame size matter?
Yes. Someone with a larger bone structure and broader shoulders will naturally and healthily weigh more than someone of the same height with a small frame. Frame size adjustments of about 10% up or down from the midpoint are commonly used.
